The highly anticipated shooter on Steam is reminiscent of The Division – Surprisingly, the release is postponed by almost a year

With The Day Before, an interesting shooter is currently in development that is strongly reminiscent of The Division. It was supposed to be released at the end of June, but the developers have now announced that the date will be postponed to 2023. For this, the shooter should appear directly in the Unreal Engine 5.

What kind of game is this? In The Day Before you end up in a zombie apocalypse in which you try to survive. These plague zombies are not huge monsters, but simply mindless creatures that want to feast on your flesh.

The shooter offers some interesting elements and looks really good in the first trailers:

  • You have to search for food, weapons and resources in the game.
  • There is a cover system like you know from The Division.
  • There are weather effects that are supposed to affect the gameplay.
  • You can drive around with vehicles, with the mud splashing around really nicely.
  • You live in constant danger because other players can attack you in addition to the zombies.

It was one of the most promising shooters for 2022.

When is the game out? The release of The Day Before was actually announced for June 21, 2022. However, the developers announced on May 5th that the date would be postponed – and quite a bit.

The Day Before is now scheduled for release on March 1, 2023. The release is planned for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Millions are looking forward to the shooter, which is why the developers want to do everything right

How do the developers justify the shift? An official statement says that “millions of players” have added The Day Before to their wish lists on Steam. This makes it one of the most anticipated games on Valve’s platform.

In order not to disappoint these players, the developers want to take more time and implement the shooter perfectly.

With the shift, The Day Before will also get a new engine, the Unreal Engine 5. This should give new technical possibilities.

How is the shift coming? The Day Before was viewed critically by many because it’s being made by an indie studio and the trailers made it look almost too good to be true. Many complained that the gameplay shown was too scripted and that the developers generally didn’t show enough of their game.

They were also skeptical because the game was supposed to be out in June, but didn’t yet have an alpha or beta to try.

The shift now causes two reactions:

  • Some players see this shift as an opportunity to actually implement the shooter the way the developers intended it to be. They are happy about the postponement.
  • Others see it as confirmation that the developers cannot deliver the game they presented.

We will probably not find out what turns out to be true in the end until March 1, 2023 at the earliest.

What do you think of the shift? Are you disappointed or did you expect something like this because there weren’t any play opportunities yet?
