Tech sites have been reporting on a new 200-megapixel sensor from Samsung for a long time. According to rumors, the development of the camera sensor is now complete and Samsung wants to start production. The sensor is called Isocell HP3 and could already be used in the Galaxy S23.

Like the Korean news portal ET News (via Sammobile) reports that the development work on the Isocell HP3 is said to have been completed. As is customary for the production of its own sensors, the Samsung Electro-Mechanics division will produce 70 percent and Samsung Electronics 30 percent of the sensors. According to ETNews, production should start soon so that the Isocell HP3 can be installed in the Galaxy S23.

Isocell HP3 is an improved version of the Isocell HP1

Anyone who has followed sensor development at Samsung a little more closely knows that the Isocell HP3 is not the first 200-megapixel sensor from the South Koreans. The company already presented the Isocell HP1 in September 2021. The powerful sensor can record videos in 8K resolution at 30 frames per second and 4K videos at 120 frames per second. It also supports an extended HDR display.

The Isocell HP3 is the improved version of the Isocell HP1. At this point in time, however, it is still unclear in which areas Samsung’s new 200-megapixel will outperform its predecessor.
