Disney+, Netflix and more: Current subscription numbers for the streaming services
Annual reports and statistics
How many subscribers do Disney+, Netflix & Co. have? Recent reports show that Disney+ has risen sharply, while Netflix and others previously lost feathers.
News
Disney has its business figures released for the second quarter of 2022. These show, among other things, that the company’s own streaming service was able to gain an additional 7.9 million subscribers in the first three months of this year. That brings the group to an impressive total of 87.6 million worldwide. There are also 50.1 million who use the Indian “Disney+” service Hotstar. This service should not be confused with Star, which is counted as a channel in the conventional “Disney+” subscription.
If Hulu and ESPN Plus, which are owned by Disney, are included, the number of subscribers even increases to 205 million. That’s a better move than Netflix threw up. For Q1, Netflix reported a loss of 200,000 users in April, but still has over 222 million people who regularly pay for the streaming service. Q2 figures are to be seen.
Prime Video usually comes with Amazon Prime, which, in addition to video streaming for many people, also includes features for premium delivery for orders or other streaming offers, for example for music or e-book downloads.
Amazon Prime Video has overtaken Netflix in Germany (according to figures from January 2022: 12.6 vs 9.6 million). But it looks different worldwide.. Current surveys according to around 200 million Prime subscribers, around 175 million people use Prime Video. Globally, then, Netflix is ahead of Amazon, which stays ahead of Disney if we don’t add up the latter’s numbers.
Disney+ also reveals that statistical earnings per user have increased from $6.01 to $6.32, at least in the US. This speaks for the model of paid early access to news and highlights. Nevertheless, rising production costs, marketing and more ensure negative business, eh The Verge summarizes. That could force Disney+, like Netflix, to an ad-supported tariff that is cheaper. A general price increase could in turn cause the number of users to dwindle.
