WoW: The extinction of the alliance raid guilds since MoP in numbers
It threatens again Hall of Fame of WoW: Shadowlands on the Alliance side to fill up slowly or possibly not at all. As of this writing, just over 100 Horde guilds have defeated the Mythic Jailer, while just nine Alliance guilds have done so.
Alliance raid guilds have been drawing attention to this trend since Legion. In September last year, the raid leaders of the top US guilds even wrote a kind of help letter because alliance guilds are dying out and top guilds will run out of players to recruit. Why are fewer people playing night elves and dwarves?
Already in our special Massive faction imbalance – what can Blizzard do? we examined what could be the reasons why alliance guilds are dying out. In the medium term, the folk skills of the Horde were to blame for why more and more top guilds favored Horde peoples for the hardest content in WoW. In the long term, over the years, Ottonormal players have increasingly followed this trend.
At least since Battle for Azeroth, however, the abilities of the alliance peoples are equivalent, if not better. You can see that from the fact that, for example, in the official Mythic Plus tournament MDI almost every dark iron dwarf for the strong folk ability fireblood plays. So if they could choose, the top guilds would play Alliance. Just for them Dozens of split runs in the Race to World First but you need a large community. A change is therefore out of the question.
In the meantime, players have become so used to the Horde and the large Horde community that a return to the Alliance would not only be expensive (character transfer and race change costs), but also hardly possible due to the large migration of Alliance guilds Finding players for group content. In my experience as an ex-WoW player
Horde: Age 12 to 25
Alliance: Age 25 to 35
Quiting age around ages 35 to 45
Both my local and international friends quit playing at about the age of 30, I held out two more years to 32 and by then I largely played alone as a casual player because I couldn’t find any guilds with a similar age to me. I tried both sides and different servers, but in the end I went full on Battlefield because most of my WoW friends made that transition. My last expansion was Warlords of Dreanor and I had bought Legion, but in the end I quit because of two things…
1. All my friends had quit and I couldn’t find any new once in my own age…
2. The constant changes to the gameplay that ment I had to learn new ways to play all over again and start grinding everything until I had what I wanted. I like many I played with always said that Wrath of the Lich King was the last good expansion and from there it all went downhill for each expansion released.
