Anthem Should Never Have Died - The tragic death of BioWare's great shooter

In the latest episode of the MeinMMO podcast, we remember the late loot shooter Anthem. The game had a lot of potential but was eventually dropped by EA. That should never have happened for the entire gaming landscape.

The launch of the loot shooter Anthem was ill-fated from the start. The testers already complained about bugs and performance errors in the beta, the release then brought lousy loot and a lack of endgame content.

It quickly became clear that Anthem wasn’t going to be the big hit that EA had hoped for. Complaints from players were compounded by internal reports of the developers’ miserable working conditions, and the game lost several project managers.

Despite an initial rescue attempt, EA ended up dropping the game. A 2.0 version of the game à la Final Fantasy XIV never materialized.

Leya and Schuhmann look back on the development of Anthem and the game’s slow death and philosophize about why the loss of Anthem is such a shame for gaming as a whole.
