Mario Strikers: Like soccer, but without the rules

Like soccer, but with electric fences and no annoying rules – that’s how Nintendo describes its upcoming Switch game Mario Strikers: Battle League Football, in which the famous plumber and other well-known heroes engage in “intense” 5v5 battles on the deliver playing field. A new overview trailer reveals what that looks like and what gamers can expect.

In “Mario Strikers” too, the team that scores the most goals wins – “but winning in the confusion won’t be easy,” writes Nintendo on the official website for the game, referring to team tackles, all sorts of items and unpleasant collisions with the electric fence at the edge of the field. The game is played either locally or online with up to seven friends in teams of five players, who are recruited from the champions of the mushroom kingdom and, as is typical for Nintendo, via individual strengths and weaknesses in categories such as Tempo, passing, or power, and the ability to fire a specific and potentially game-changing “Hypershot.” Mario Strikers: Battle League Football is coming to Switch on June 10th.
