MSI 2022: Favorites for the title – who are the biggest LoL stars?

Who are the favourites? When it comes to the best League of Legends teams in the world, it’s always easy to look to Asia. The Korean team in particular T1 looks unstoppable this year. T1 managed an incredible unbeaten season in the best region in the world, as South Korea is seen by almost every pundit.

They finished the group stage 18-0. In the playoffs, second-placed team Gen. G only won one game. T1’s Superstar Faker has been considered one of the best players in the world for many years. They also won MSI in 2016 and 2017.

T1’s biggest competitor should normally be the LPL team Royal Never Give Up (RNG) be. The team narrowly won China’s League of Legends league – however, they are not traveling to Busan in South Korea due to Corona regulations. The two-time winner still has to prove whether they can keep up with the other teams online.

G2 Esports can only be seen as an outsider. MSI 2019 even won G2, beating T1 3-2 in the semifinals. The team around jungler Jankos is always capable of such a surprise. The rumble phase should both reach G2 and EG as they compete in the group of three.

Who are the stars? T1’s Faker has been the superstar in League of Legends since 2013. At that time he was just 17 years old. He is still seen by many as the GOAT (greatest player of all time) in LoL. The best-known player from China is probably Xiaohu, who was able to win the MSI with RNG in 2018 and 2021 – back then he was still on the top lane, today he is a midlaner. RNG’s support Ming was also part of the two wins.

But there are also LoL superstars apart from the two favorites. G2’s Jankos has been the pillar of the European super team for years. With G2 he won MSI 2019 and reached the final of the World Championship in the same year. In the LCS, a rookie was able to show off last year. EG’s botlaner Danny carried the team from win to win throughout the playoffs. Outsiders PSG Talon have an ace up their sleeve in Taiwanese top planer Hanabi. He could carry the team into the rumble phase or even into the KO phase.
