update with the result:

Most of the survey participants (38 percent) only listen to very special soundtracks. The comments suggested that this is often the music of valued classics. Only 25 percent said they never listen to game music outside of games. However, 17 percent of the survey participants often do so. The game series that has probably received the most praise in the comments for its soundtrack is final fantasy.

The result at a glance:

Just a few very special ones 38%
Never 25%
Occasionally 20%
Often 17%

Original text:
Composers have crafted a fine range of tonal sequences for video games: from early catchy tunes Super Mario Bros., turrican or The Secret of Monkey Islandvia dub-step broadsides in Tekkenspherical electro soundscapes in cloudpunk to blaring orchestras in Elden ring and Shadow of the Colossus. Even smaller indies now often have editions that include the soundtrack.

We’d like to know: How often do you listen to game music even when you’re not playing? Do you like to play original game soundtracks while doing something else or traveling? Do you make yourself comfortable and listen deeply to certain video game songs? Are you maybe even looking for (in)official remixes of tracks that you particularly like? Tell us in the survey how often you hear gaming tunes outside of the associated games and feel free to get even more detailed in the comments.

You have until Monday at 09:00 to cast your vote – if you change your mind, you can still log in another answer until then. We will then close the survey and present you with the resulting opinion a little later in the form of a news update. Do you have ideas for a Sunday question? Then send a PM to Hagen. You can also post suggestions in the comments, which improves discoverability enormously if the word “suggestion” also appears in the comment.
