Rumors are currently circulating again about three Silent Hill projects that are said to be in the works at different studios. A new report now speaks of a remake of Part 2, an episodic short story series set in the Silent Hill universe and – thankfully – also a new entry in the main series; Because that’s the only thing I really need.

Rumored sequel

It’s all about this: Videogameschronicle.com lists in an article the three new Silent Hill projects that are said to be in the works. Several insiders have given hints about the games in development in the past, but as VGC reports, the magazine’s own sources also.

This is revealed about the sequel: According to VGC, a Japanese studio is developing the new offshoot. Screenshots were recently leaked on the Internet, which the magazine attributes to a playable teaser for a new Silent Hill. The teaser’s codename is “Sakura”. Of course, horror fans immediately have memories of PT, the “playable teaser” for Hideo Kojima’s pulped Silent Hills.

The credibility of the screenshots increased when the Twitter account of the user who posted the images was subsequently suspended. By then, however, the leak had already made the rounds.

Other Projects: According to VGC sources, a remake of the popular second part is being made alongside the sequel. Among other things, this should come with improved character models as well as animations and revised puzzles. Rumor has it that Bloober Team, the studio behind The Medium and Co., is responsible.

In addition, another studio is said to be working on an episodic series, for which Supermassive Games should probably be responsible first. According to VGC, this project resulted in the Dark Pictures Anthology.

Samara Summer

As far as the Silent Hill series goes, the last few years have really been horror for me in a negative sense. The playable teaser for Kojima’s Silent Hills showed me how badly I needed a modern spin on the series – only to find myself left stranded. The fact that the rumor mill then boiled up all the time and fueled my hopes didn’t make it any better.

And slowly but surely I’m losing patience. It’s about time for an official announcement – and I really hope it’s a sequel. A sensitive remake would be nice too, sure, but what I really need is new horror fodder. After all, it’s the unknown that gives you goosebumps. This only works with a whole new horror experience like it did back then. PT showed me exactly how a modern Silent Hill would have to feel in order to get under the skin as much as the classic parts did back then.

Feel free to tell us in the comments what you’re hoping for from the Silent Hill series in 2022 – or if you’ve long since lost hope.
