Action RPG on Steam mixes Diablo and PoE, has over 10,000 positive reviews – “This is Diablo 4”

Last Epoch Classes

Diablo 4 is still a long time coming, but the action RPG Last Epoch is getting thousands of positive reviews on Steam. The title is reminiscent of a mixture of Path of Exile and Diablo. Last Epoch is now even starting the first test for multiplayer.

What is Last Epoch? Last Epoch is a “Hack & Slay” action RPG from the American developer studio Eleventh Hour Games. In addition to 15 master classes and a variety of customizable skills, Last Epoch is characterized above all by its time travel mechanics.

In addition to the currently available single player, there will also be a multiplayer in the future, which the Eleventh Hour Games team is currently working on. Furthermore, an in-game shop with microtransactions is planned, where skins, pets and magic effects can be bought.

Last Epoch is currently in Early Access and available on Steam. At the moment there is no information about a possible console version for Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5, for example.

Why does Last Epoch seem like a cross between Diablo and Path of Exile?

Last Epoch is a classic Hack’n’Slay and is therefore reminiscent of well-known representatives of the genre. MeinMMO shows you which aspects of Diablo or Path of Exile you recognize in Last Epoch:

  • Scope of Classes and Skill Trees (Path of Exile)
  • Crafting and Equipment System (Path of Exile)
  • Class Design (Diablo 2)
  • The skills and the structure of the skills (Diablo)

What sets Last Epoch apart? What sets Last Epoch apart from other action RPGs is the way the classes work.

There are five starter classes from which you can choose one. Each of these five starter classes has three specializations for advancement. This gives you a total of 15 specializations that have their own unique skills.

First community test for multiplayer

What information do we have about multiplayer? The Eleventh Hour Games team recently created a Update on the development status of the Last Epoch Multiplayer released. It states that the team will extend the current development cycle to September 2022 and begin the first community test for multiplayer.

The multiplayer, performance and combat will be fine-tuned in the development cycle, which will last until September. In this cycle, one no longer wants to divide the attention between single player and multiplayer, but rather work efficiently on “large and branched tasks”.

Most recently, the team overhauled the loading process in Last Epoch to ensure that traveling back and forth is a “quick and seamless experience.”

In addition, the developers have announced advances in diagnostics and troubleshooting in multiplayer. As a result, problems can now be identified and remedied more quickly.

Can you take part in the multiplayer test? In the update, Eleventh Hour Games asks that no applications be submitted to participate in community tests.

The participants of the current first test have already been determined and if it should be possible to apply for a test again in the future, this will be announced.

In 2022, “Hack’n’Slay” fans are still waiting for Diablo 4. However, the upcoming offshoot of Blizzard’s popular game series certainly has competition in the genre with which you can sweeten your waiting time.
