New sandbox MMORPG promises maximum freedom – Starts first tests today

Profane will be a new MMORPG that focuses on maximum freedom. You should be able to determine your play style yourself, really slip into a role and expose yourself to real dangers. On May 18th, the game will start the first tests for the combat system. We tell you how you can take part.

What kind of game is this? In Profane you can create a character that is not tied to anything. There are no classes and no levels. Instead, you learn skills that you can improve over time and advance your character.

The game world itself has a more comic-like look and above all promises you a lot of freedom:

  • There is no story that follows her
  • You can build your own house, but also your own city. This city can be expanded, but also attacked by enemies
  • The world should generally change dynamically, be it by players or by attacks from NPCs
  • In the open world, PvP reigns supreme with full loot. Players from other factions can attack you and you can lose items if you die.
  • The combat system should be action-packed and you have to actively aim and dodge
  • There is a crafting system along with a player-driven economy
  • The weather should also affect gameplay
  • PvE and crafting are supposed to play a role, but PvP is the big focus

The developers say that in Profane, players will take on a role, make choices, and take losses upon death. Because of these missing components, WoW is not a real role-playing game and cannot be compared to Profane.

Profane starts first tests of the combat system

What is the current status of profane? The sandbox MMORPG is still in a pre-alpha and is currently not permanently playable. However, today, May 18th, the first “Basic Combat Test” starts in a very early version of the game.

You can move around the game world and carry out initial attacks. Some of the animations should still be placeholders, just like many UI elements.

However, the test is still missing a number of things, including:

  • skills
  • The inventory and equipment
  • enemies
  • character progression
  • crafting
  • Building your own houses

So the test is really just there to test the game’s movement and auto-attack. There is also an NDA on this test, so players are not allowed to show anything they see.

What do we know about the release? The new MMORPG will be Free2Play and will be released for PC in its own client. It is currently unclear whether it will also come to Steam. Exact details about a release date are not yet available.
