Nvidia Geforce RTX 4090: Alleged images of the cooler leaked

from Maximilian Hohm
Nvidia’s Founders Edition models of the Ampere series were equipped with quite good and optically restrained cooling solutions, apart from negative glitches like the Geforce RTX 3080 Ti. The first alleged images of the cooler of a Geforce RTX 4090 suggest that Nvidia wants to stay true to this line and that the new coolers are very similar to their predecessors.

Nvidia’s desktop flagship SKU GA102 is already too power hungry for many gamers and they manually undervolt the cards to increase efficiency. Initial leaks for the new Ada Lovelace cards suggested even higher consumption in the region of 600 watts and would have required power supply upgrades for many users. However, the latest rumors (we reported) speak of a lower 450 watts, a power consumption that the Geforce RTX 3090 Ti also easily achieves.

The limit of waste heat that can be sensibly dissipated with air cooling in a normal case also seems to be in this region. While the large air cooler of the Geforce RTX 3090 FE with 350 watts TGP still delivered an absolutely sovereign and quite quiet performance, the minimally modified design on the Geforce RTX 3090 Ti FE at 450 watts was already sweating a lot more, but the card was still able to do it properly cool.

Appropriately, the first alleged images of the new cooler of a Geforce RTX 4090 have now appeared in the Chinese forum Chiphell. The new cooling solution seems to remain true to Nvidia’s current line and offers even more cooling fins than on the RTX 3090 Ti. The V-shaped structure of the cooler is striking in the design, which has a corresponding PCB as with the RTX 30×0 (Ti) models requires.

If the images are real, it would also mean sticking to the dual axial fan concept for Nvidia and confirming that Nvidia used the RTX 3090 Ti as a test for the increased power consumption with such a cooling design. Since a release in July is also under discussion according to the latest leaks, there could be more information in the near future.
