PS5: More consoles coming soon? New chip and fresh model could increase your chances

The PS5 could soon get a new model.

The PS5 could soon get a new model.

Most recently, the chances of getting hold of a PlayStation 5 in Germany were not that bad. Consoles in the five-figure range have been sold by Sony and its partners, which means that prices on platforms such as eBay are currently a bit more moderate.

Unfortunately, this is only a snapshot, because Sony has revised its sales forecast for the PS5 downwards in the current financial year, as the shortage of semiconductor chips still only allows for small contingents. However, there is now a glimmer of hope that the situation will soon improve permanently.

AMD could also use new manufacturing process for PS5 chip

It’s all about this: There have recently been reports that the chip shortage, which is massively affecting the availability of the PS5, could last until 2024. According to the tech insider Zuby Tech However, the dark clouds on the horizon could soon lift, since the Ryzen 7 6800U, a notebook processor from AMD, has inaugurated a new manufacturing process that enables smaller structures.

What does this have to do with the PS5? The assumption is that the manufacturing process could be used for the PS5 chip. The change to a new model number would also fit in with this. A new version of the PlayStation 5 called “CFI-1200” has already been registered in Japan. Since all previous models were called “CFI-11XX”, this time there seem to be major changes inside the console (via Dualshockers).

The alternative would likely allow Sony to manufacture and market more devices. The high demand will probably not be covered in the foreseeable future, but that would definitely be an improvement.

But there won’t be a more powerful PS5

It is not unusual for console manufacturers to regularly release new models. As a rule, this is not widely communicated and is therefore not noticed. The newly installed parts are usually cheaper and ensure better efficiency. So you don’t have to expect a performance boost with the PS5, but if so, with improved availability.

Incidentally, there have recently been rumors about new, more efficient chips in relation to the Xbox Series X.
