Destiny 2 Finally Fulfills Fans' 5-Year-Old Wish - But Disappoints With Event Pass Costs

While everything in Destiny 2 is currently waiting eagerly for new clues about the upcoming Season 17, yesterday’s TWaB blog (This Week at Bungie) brought a small liberation. However, this piece of good news didn’t mitigate the additional cost of event cosmetics and dungeons. MeinMMO has looked at what the players can expect and what exactly is criticized.

The latest TWaB (“This Week at Bungie” blog) this week covered everything but story content for the new Season 17. Instead, the TWaB featured other topics that the developer focused on.

  • The groaning of the player vaults became too loud, so you will soon have more space.
  • Season 17 brings you a new dungeon for which Bungie informed about the rewards.
  • Events, like the Solstice, will be refreshed and get a so-called “Event Pass”.
  • And for the trials there will be new armor that will probably make hunters into monkeys.
The new Trials armor will probably turn hunters into monkeys.

What did Bungie announce exactly? Destiny 2 is always exciting when players are either looking forward to the new content or not knowing what to expect. Bungie has also recognized this and has not released any information about the new season story so far.

They want to keep the excitement for Season 17 content as long as possible, as revealed by dmg04, Bungie Community Manager on Twitter. Only on Tuesday, May 24th, shortly before the start of the new Season 17, can players expect a trailer and further details about Season 17.

In addition, the TWaB also brought good news for all vault messies, godroll hoarders and item nostalgics.

  • Vault storage space for player items will be increased from 500 to 600.
  • The change is intended to bring at least some relief while Bungie plans to continue exploring future fixes.

A new dungeon is also available: In Season 17, a new dungeon will also enrich the game and, in addition to the new Iron Banner, there will also be some adjustments to the annual events.

When should the new dungeon start? The new dungeon will start shortly after the start of Season 17, more precisely on Friday, May 27th at 11 a.m. The power level requirement is 1550. The hard cap in Season 17 is 1570, so it only increases by 10 power level points.

However, what the players can expect in the dungeon in terms of story is uncertain, because Bungie wants you to discover the new content yourself. But there was at least a basic outlook for the dungeon loot:

  • The dungeon will have an exotic weapon and catalyst ready.
  • There will also be a legendary armor set per class that will again grant the improved “Ornate Armor” on the “Grandmaster” difficulty level.
  • There are also 4 legendary new weapons and 2 reprized weapons waiting for you.
  • An exotic accessory and 2 legendary badges can also be earned.

A bitter aftertaste remains: Until 2022, dungeons were always included and an integral part of the expansion that launched them – so playable at no extra cost. However, Bungie has revised its offer concept in this regard and canceled the sale of dungeons in October 2021 as an inclusive offer.

  • For example, for players who bought the exclusive Deluxe Edition of “The Witch Queen” including the additional season passes for year 5, the 2 new dungeons from year 5 are still included.
  • However, those who only purchased the standard versions of The Witch Queen plus the additional Year 5 Season Passes will not be able to play the new dungeons.
  • The dungeons are sold separately for silver for interested players.

Destiny 2: Players are pissed off because they are supposed to pay extra for dungeons in the future

Already this monetization of additional content, such as the dungeons, caused displeasure among the players after the announcement. But now Bungie has also revealed in the weekly blog that the annual events have been revised. Silver, the real-money currency in Destiny 2, should also be due in part for this.

  • Event cosmetics will no longer be available in the Everversum shop.
  • There will be a new event pass that players can use to earn cosmetics.
  • The Event Pass can be upgraded with Silver and grants an exotic reward package.

on reddit let players express their feelings about the announcements and Silver purchases in the new event pass:

[…] I’m not shelling out an extra $10 to play a friggin’ seasonal event that ends faster than the season I just paid friggin’ $10 for. How much money do I have to spend before I can play the whole damn game I already paid money for?

says the player Hit_Me_With_The_Jazz on reddit about it

AverageCrayonEnjoyer has a similar opinion. He writes about it on reddit:

Banning these cosmetics, which incidentally could have been earned through Bright Dust, means that Bungie has gone out of its way to take an already outrageous system and make it even worse by changing it [die Dinge] locked behind a paywall. It was one thing, a whole dungeon [Sog der Habsucht] and locking an exotic weapon behind a $25 paywall (which still didn’t justify that damn price), but that feels like a greedy advancement of that model.

Events remain free: The fact is, even at the start of the new Season 17, the annual events will of course remain free for all players, both for New Light players and for all Destiny 2 veterans.

Bungie has only packed the event cosmetics, which were previously available in a separate tab in Eververse (also for silver), into the new “Event Pass”.

  • Upgrading the event card then costs 1000 silver and immediately grants players an exotic reward package.
  • Bungie also mentions that players will get even more rewards by spending the event tickets they’ve collected from event challenges.
  • It was also mentioned that these event cosmetics could definitely be available again via Eververse at a later date.

At the moment, however, it is still unclear exactly how this will work with the acquisition.

What do you think of the information from the weekly TWaB? Does it also bother you that you might have to spend silver to get all the cosmetics from the events? And what about future fee-based dungeons? Have you already bought them or do you decide that spontaneously? Let us know what you think about the changes in the comments.
