One Piece Odyssey will not be a World Seeker: screenshots of the combat system give hope
One Piece fans haven’t had it easy with 2019’s action game World Seeker. The graphic style was incoherent, the fights boring and the world unloving. In short: World Seeker did not do justice to the successful anime and harvested both in the GamePro test and Metacritic bad ratings.
But that’s about to change with One Piece Odyssey. New information on the combat system and exploration, which comes directly from the official website for the game originate (translated via WccfTech).
Fight in the Straw Hat Quartet
It was already known that we would throw ourselves into turn-based battles with Luffy, Zoro & Co. What is new is that we can take up to four straw hat pirates into battle. At least that’s what the screenshots suggest, in which we can see a bar with up to four party members on the left:
The fights should follow a rock-paper-scissors system, so similar to the battles of the classic Pokémon games. Means that the straw hat pirates as well as all opponents have strengths and weaknesses that we have to take into account in the fight. In addition, under certain conditions, we can combine the powers of our pirates (Kizuna Arts) and launch an even more powerful attack. It all brings more tactics into play that World Seeker missed.
What fans of the anime should also be happy about: During the fights there will also be cinematic attack scenes (dramatic scenes) that could exude some series feeling and then provide bonuses.
Not only Luffy, but all straw hat pirates are in demand
The unique skills of the crew members are also important in Odyssey. In order to be able to explore the world with its dungeons and solve puzzles, we have to use their abilities skillfully. Of course, this means that we use Luffy’s skills, which he received from the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit, or the improvisational skills of the shipbuilder Franky. With Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, Robin, Franky and Brook in the playable crew should keep the exploration exciting in the long run.
