[PLUS-TOPSELLER] Tuning for Ryzen 5000: Ryzen 9 5900X, Ryzen 7 5800X and Ryzen 5 5600X

Ryzen 5000 squeezed out

With Zen 3, AMD has made many adjustments: In addition to the front end, back end, load/store units and caches, this also includes upgrading the core complexes (CCX) from four to eight cores. The reward of the whole thing is a higher performance per cycle. When it comes to production, however, the Americans opted for the tried and tested: After switching from Globalfoundries’ 12 nm process to TSMC’s 7 nm process with the Ryzen 3000 generation, AMD again relies on the N7 process from the Taiwanese with low ultraviolet immersion lithography, not to the N7P expansion stage or even the N7+ manufacturing process, which is implemented using extreme ultraviolet exposure – this only applies to the computing cores, however, the 12 nm process from Globalfoundries is still used for the I/O chip.

The optimized Process Design Kits (PDK) introduced with the XT models of the previous generation have also been adopted. Since TSMC has also implemented detailed improvements in the manufacturing process, which increase the yield per wafer, the new processors, codenamed Vermeer, are by far the fastest Ryzen processors.

We start our OC experiments by testing the clock headroom of the R9 5900X, R7 5800X and R5 5600X models by manually setting the voltage in 0.05 volt increments and the core clock in 50 MHz increments and increasing them until instability occurs. Compared to the starting basis (all CPU settings in the UEFI menu on “Auto”), either the efficiency or the clock rates in Cinebench R20 (conventional full load) and Prime95 (full load with AVX2 instructions) can be significantly increased in this way.
