Amazon Music Unlimited is getting more expensive: Price increase for Prime customers

from Andrew Link
Amazon Music Unlimited is becoming more expensive: The group has announced a price increase of almost 13 percent for the summer. Deezer had already raised its prices in February and it is generally expected that the competition will follow suit.

Deezer did it, so it was only a matter of time before the next music streaming service would raise its prices. Amazon is now following suit: new prices will apply in Germany from June 24, 2022, after other countries had already received the increase. However, Amazon still stays below the 10-euro mark because it operates well below that anyway. With a Prime subscription, Music Unlimited will cost EUR 8.99 from the key date – EUR 1 more than before. The subscription without Prime, which still costs 9.99 euros, remains surprisingly untouched. Presumably one looks to jump the magic mark, as long as most competitors stick to 9.99 euros. The annual subscriptions are also increased by 10 euros to 89 euros; they will be due at the next renewal of the subscription (from June 24th).

Deezer tears down the 10 euro wall: price increase for music streaming

For customers who already have the Prime subscription, which costs 60 euros a year in Germany, the price increase is unpleasant. 12 euros more or vice versa in the future only 10 or 12 euros discount compared to normal customers is more than nothing, but generally not so incredibly attractive. And Amazon Music Unlimited for Echo will also be more expensive – from 3.99 to 4.99. The low price is due to the fact that use is limited to the echo and only by voice command.

Apart from Deezer, where they announced in February the price increase from 9.99 to 10.99 euros for a single subscription and from 14.99 euros to 16.99 euros for a family subscription, the market is still calm. Due to the general rate of inflation, however, it is assumed that sooner or later the dams will break – Apple, Napster, Spotify, Tidal and Youtube Music are the big names in the business. When it comes to the price increase, Deezer emphasizes that 70 percent of the income is assigned to the rights holders – what ultimately reaches the artist is part of the individual contracts.
