Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II: Rumor: Developer Leak for DMZ Game Mode

An alleged Activision employee has revealed information about the DMZ game mode in the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.

An anonymous developer believed to be working on various projects at Activision has leaked some information about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, mostly on the game mode DMZ and the state of development.

The abbreviation DMZ usually means demilitarized zone and describes a safe place between two areas. Rumor has it that this game mode will be similar to Rainbow Six Extraction. Accordingly, it could be a hostage rescue with AI-controlled opponents.

The following information was disclosed by the alleged employee:

  • DMZ maps will have different ‘biomes’, this term has become more common lately and describes different geographical features on a map, eg a desert region next to a city.
  • 20-35 players
  • DMZ takes a lot of inspiration from Escape from Tarkov, with less heaviness. The weapon attachments, ammo types and armor could therefore be decisive.
  • There will be a weather system, including a day/night cycle and modular areas on the maps for dynamic gameplay.
  • The weapon forge is improved. Weapon customization should now also be possible in-game with the push of a button.
  • A lot of resources are invested in this mode, similar to multiplayer.

Last but not least, the anonymous employee reports that the crunch (the revamp) is high at the moment despite the teams passion and will run out of steam after release. This is probably due to the many short-term decisions. It is also mentioned that the graphics no serious jumps will do and that the last generation of consoles is probably to blame. Of course, this is a subjective assessment of the employee and everyone has to decide for themselves.

To attest to its authenticity, the employee released a video that he says is being used for an internal presentation:

Time will tell how much of this information actually holds up to publication. As soon as there are official reports, you will find out from us.
