Destiny 2: Season 17 Brings Back Eaters of Ancient Worlds – All Season of the Haunted Content

Season 17 of Destiny 2 will be fiery with Solar 3.0 when the former “Eater of Worlds” returns in the new “Season of the Haunted”. But what exactly is in the new Season 17, which starts tonight? Is it all just recycling? Or does the player expect more? MeinMMO took a look at what’s in store for the next three months.

The return of the world-eater Leviathan should come as no surprise to some players who have been following the story closely. We too suspected after the voice lines of the exotic mission Vox Obscura that a return of the former cabal emperor Calus was becoming more and more likely.

• In Season 17, the corrupted but apparently abandoned Leviathan returns.
• It confirms that the former Emperor and father of Empress Caiatl has a penchant for darkness.
• With the Leviathan’s connection to the pyramid on the moon, the Guardians must once again look into the abyss to stop Calus’ machinations.

In the new Bungie trailer for Season 17 you can see the return of the imposing Leviathan. In addition, Season of the Haunted also features Nightmares from Shadowkeep and new demons:

New Story: The Leviathan has appeared from behind the moon and now the Pyramid of Darkness there is answering his call. It has been altered and overgrown by the plants of darkness that some players are familiar with from the exotic mission “Ominous”. This is how demons from times long past, which one deeply regrets, are now manifesting themselves.

However, not only the guardians have to face their evil spirits. Old memories also haunt Crow, Caiatl and Commander Zavala.

In order to be able to react better to the impending danger, the HELM command center was also moved into orbit around the moon.

Players can expect new Nightmare Hunts: In Shadowkeep, the Guardians have already successfully banished the nightmares from the moon. But in the new seasonal activity, they must face them again and purify them with fire.

• In the Nightmare Containment activity, players enter the abandoned halls of the darkness-corrupted leviathan. This is likely to be an activity for up to 6 players.
• The activity “Separation” also takes place on the Leviathan, but for this you have to fight through the labyrinthine underbelly of the Leviathan.

The next subclass 3.0 is Solar: So, Season 17 will ignite enhanced fire in the hearts of Guardians. So new customizable aspects and fragments come into play in Season of the Haunted.

• Unleash a healing force with your Warlock, or face your annihilation in the midst of the rain at a shattered dawn.
• Hunters have always been true gunslingers. With Solar 3.0 they will shine even more with their dexterity and their skills.
• And with Solar 3.0, the titans become machines of siege – fueled by the wrath of immortal suns. A confrontation with them is like the end of everything.

These weapons and armor await you: With the return of Calus, some once opulent weapons have found their way back into the game.

• “Troubleshooter” – Season 17’s ornamented Season Pass weapon is an exotic pistol.
• New Season Weapons:
  • Scout Rifle, Rocket Launcher, Glaive and a new Legendary Trace Rifle.
• These old menagerie weapons are returning:
  • “Falconer” – once a kinetic handgun
  • “Drang-Baroque” – once a solar pistol
  • “Calus MINI Tool” – once a solar submachine gun
  • “Beloved” – once a solar sniper rifle
• A solar scythe that is likely a relic weapon similar to last season’s Synaptic Spear.
• And Ghost Rider-like armor that will interpret the Solar 3.0 theme.

Did Bungie only recycle old content here? At first glance, one might assume so. Both the exotic season weapons “Unauthorized” from Destiny 1 and the old weapons from the menagerie are not new. They were already playable during the “Season of Opulence”.

However, the story of Destiny 2 is constantly evolving, so the plot will probably be the interesting part in the next three months. And the new “Season of the Haunted” will focus entirely on combat in the darkness-tainted Leviathan.

It will certainly be interesting for veterans and new players alike to discover how impossibly large the Leviathan is and how the once opulent ship now looks grim, dark and overgrown with corruption.

However, it is still uncertain whether the players will meet Calus again in person. Only one thing is certain: he is still there and apparently has a concrete plan. Whether his own or that of the Darkness, the Guardians may soon uncover that.

When does the new Season 17 start? Interested players can already start the “season of the haunted” tonight. It is planned that the Destiny 2 servers should go online again promptly at 7 p.m. after a short downtime.
