Gaming events in summer 2022: Geoff Keighley promises great gameplay
I know, I know. Many of you have a hard time putting up with the PR babble at the various gaming events, or the way presenter Geoff Keighley kisses his dev buddies’ asses (especially when Hideo Kojima is around). And the often-generic CGI trailers that reveal little about the game scream a waste of time, too.
But maybe that’s exactly why I’m sitting where I’m sitting (in my home office) and doing what I’ve been doing with great pleasure for many years (you know: editor stuff for the PC and video games area), because I feel that childish, anticipatory tingle every year as we approach June. Finally new announcements! New trailers! New gameplay! New info! In a comparatively short period of time! Cool!
Short journey through time: That’s how it was with these trade fairs – good old times:
The event summer in 2022 – the dates in June
Although we have to again forego the E3 this year, but we still have a packed schedule of events to look forward to in the coming weeks. Here is an overview of the most important dates in June:
What awaits us? Geoff Keighley reveals
The two most important dates from the above list are certainly the showcase of Xbox and Bethesda (Starfield Gameplay Premiere?!) and the Summer Game Fest. At the event hosted by Geoff Keighley, as mentioned at the beginning, many of the publishers and developers who cannot or do not want to set up their own event have the honor of doing so. Partners already confirmed include:
- 2K
- Activision Blizzard
- Capcom
- Devolver Digital
- riot
- Ubisoft
- Warner Bros.
- Cook Media
- gearbox
- EA
- Amazon Games
As in the past, the moderator has again this time via Twitter asked to speak to give an outlook on the upcoming event. He explains that after last year’s experience, there will be fewer independent streaming events this year. On the one hand, the fans were very disappointed because these small events didn’t have the character of a press conference. On the other hand, many studios/publishers only have one or two great projects to show. It’s not worth a separate stream for that. Events such as the Summer Game Fest, which can offer these games a stage, benefit from this.
But Geoff Keighley also curbs expectations: Players won’t see everything they might be hoping for in June 2022. Nor will we expect an event that can compete with E3. The Summer Game Fest is very different. However, the moderator promises that we can look forward to great gameplay (via playfront).
What announcements and gameplay trailers are you hoping for this summer? And are you watching the Summer Game Fest, the Xbox Showcase, or the other events? Or do you prefer to pick out the news and trailers that interest you the next day? Tell us in the comments!
