Dune: Spice Wars: Roadmap revealed, multiplayer is coming

The Dune: Spice Wars roadmap shows which features the developers are currently working on.

Dune: Spice Wars only started successfully in Early Access in April. While the game still has its quirks and certainly won’t appeal to everyone’s tastes, it’s currently coming to Steam 81 percent positive reviews. In our big Early Access check, we examined the mix of 4X and real-time strategy in detail and discussed its strengths and weaknesses. Now we also know how to proceed with the project: In a community post the developers have published an initial roadmap showing which features are planned and what is currently being worked on.

The already announced multiplayer mode is at the top of the to-do list for the developers. Currently, the Early Access version only includes a skirmish mode against up to three AI opponents. The well-known gameplay should largely correspond to the multiplayer experience, albeit with one important difference: the pause function will certainly not be included in multiplayer mode, so we expect that Dune: Spice Wars (buy now €29.99 ) designed a little more hectic online than in the single player.

Unfortunately, a single player campaign is not yet included in the roadmap. However, the developers promised a single-player mode away from the classic skirmish even before the start of Early Access. It seems like the campaign will be a long time coming. But we should soon get a fifth playable faction. There will also be a new victory condition in this update. Both the multiplayer mode and the fifth faction are planned for this summer.

Dune: Spice Wars | PREVIEW | The strategy hope in the early access check

A later update called “Air and Sand” should then offer spaceports and suitable ships, and there will also be other buildings and new unit types. Also in the works: The Heroes of Dune update expands on the previously rather bland advisors and adds new features to the iconic characters. Some advisors will be used as special agents, for example, while others will plunge into battle as fighting special units. Of course, Dune: Spice Wars should also be expanded and improved with new features, so the current roadmap is only a rough foretaste. As with their last strategy game Northgard, Shiro Games wants to listen to the feedback from the community and implement fan requests.
