Moonlighter is now free for anyone with a Netflix subscription and I highly recommend it.

Netflix has been offering games for a while that subscribers can pull to their mobile devices via the app at no additional cost. And although the library is regularly expanded, the range of games has never really interested me, at least. That’s changing now though, as among the three new titles that have joined the service is one of my favorite feel-good games: Moonlighter. Then it’s about time that I bought the app.

Moonlighter and more games are coming to Netflix

Three new games have now been added to Netflix’s range of games, and a fourth (also highly recommended) will follow on March 31st. The service will then offer a total of 22 titles for iOS and Android devices. These are the new games:

  • moonlighter
  • Dragon Up
  • Townsmen: A Kingdom Rebuilt
  • Exploding Kittens (from March 31)

That’s what it’s about: Moonlighter is a mix of dungeon crawler and shop simulator. We work our way through the different dungeons of the game, collect resources there and face boss fights. If we die, we lose a large part of our collected materials, which is typical for a rogue-lite. Luckily we can also secure a few of them in special inventory slots or use portals to teleport out of the dungeons if we have enough money for the cost.

Once we’ve made it back to our village, we can sell the materials we’ve collected – but we don’t just sell everything to a dealer, we put it up for sale in our shop ourselves. Here we have to determine the correct price of different items and keep thieves at bay. With the money we earn, we then expand the village or improve our equipment.

So far I found it rather nice that Netflix now also offers games as part of the subscription, but I would never have gotten the app for it. But Moonlighter should change that now. For me, the game is one of the feel-good games par excellence – even though I’m actually not a rogue-lite fan at all.

For those who don’t like the genre like me, it offers not only the more stressful fights but also the cute retro style and the relaxed atmosphere of the village, along with a great soundtrack. Admittedly, I still get frustrated quickly when my inventory is full to the brim with valuable resources and I die from a stupid mistake. But then I can at least vent myself by killing thieves in my shop. You feel better right away.

What do you say about the new Netflix games, is there something for you?
