PlayStation 5: half of all releases for PC and mobile

According to Jim Ryan, half of SONY’s releases will be on PC and mobile by 2025. Additionally, twelve live service games are in the works.

During a recent business meeting, SIE President Jim Ryan stated that SONY plans to offer a larger platform for its activities in the future. Expect half of annual releases to be on PC and mobile by 2025.

In addition, at least twelve live service games are in the works for the coming years. Both could lead to fundamental changes in the business structure, according to Ryan.

“PlayStation Studios has historically done beautifully in delivering a strong portfolio of narrative, graphically beautiful single-player games, but it’s certainly true that we’ve limited ourselves to a fairly narrow slice of the gaming market.”

“By expanding to PC and mobile, and it must be said to live services as well, we have the opportunity to go from a situation where we’re only present in a very narrow segment of the overall gaming software market to one that’s pretty much ubiquitous presence.”

“I think if we get this right, if we execute it with intelligence and excellence, there are opportunities for significant growth in the number of people playing our games, the number of people enjoying our games, and the number of people who are spending money on our games exponentially.”

“I would say, for example, if we manage to get a portion of the 12 live service games that PlayStation Studios are developing, if only a portion of that has critical and commercial success, over time that will have an impact that will affect our… Completely transform business structure.”

A graphic shown during Ryan’s presentation also indicated that no more PlayStation 4 games will be released after 2025.

Since the PC port of Horizon Zero Dawn in August 2020, other previously PlayStation-exclusive in-house productions such as Days Gone or God of War have appeared for PC. Uncharted 4 and other games are to follow in the future.

In addition, SONY recently took over Nixxes Software, a studio with proven expertise in PC versions, and hired former Apple Arcade content boss Nicola Sebastiani for the company’s mobile division.
