The Witcher 4 is now in pre-production, says CD Projekt

As developer CD Projekt confirms, the fourth part of The Witcher has gone into pre-production.

Finally! A new sign of life from The Witcher 4

Although The Witcher 4 doesn’t have an official title yet, it was announced in March and is said to start a “new saga” for the franchise.

The open-world title is being developed on the Unreal Engine 5. The predecessors and Cyberpunk 2077 are based on the in-house REDengine.

CD Projekt’s Chief Financial Officer gave an update on the game yesterday, May 26th:

“We recently completed the research phase, which means the project has now moved into pre-production and we’ve started to ramp up development costs for this new game,” he said.

The team is “extremely excited to return to the universe that shaped our history on such a large scale.”

With a lot of the studio’s capacity currently being used to develop the Cyberpunk 2077 story DLC, it’s nice to see The Witcher 4 making progress too.
