The Witcher 4 reaches its first major milestone and can really get going soon
The new The Witcher saga can start with pre-production.
CDPR has announced a new The Witcher part, but not much is known about the game apart from the switch to Unreal Engine 5, not even the final name. That shouldn’t be too surprising, after all, the game is still in a very early phase of development, but has now at least reached a first major milestone.
Witcher 4 ends its research phase
In a new one investor meeting CDPR CEO Adam Kiciński spoke about the development status of the next Witcher saga. In it he explains that the first game in the new series has finished with the research phase and can start the next phase accordingly:
“We can’t wait to return to the universe that has influenced our story so much. We recently completed our research on the first game in the new Witcher saga.”
Effective means that production hasn’t really started yet. Rather, the preparations have been completed in order to move on to the pre-production phase and, for example, to define the setting and characters before actual development begins. Accordingly, it should also be a few years before we can expect the next Witcher part.
Unreal Engine 5 accelerates development: But there is good news for the development. As Kiciński also points out, the development team has already noticed that working with Unreal Engine 5 is much more efficient. After the studio apparently had problems with the internal RED engine during the development of Cyberpunk 2077, CDPR has now entered into a cooperation with Epic for the new Witcher game so that the new RPG runs more stable:

Other CDPR projects
Although more than 100 developers are currently working on the new Witcher game, CDPR is of course still working on other projects. Last but not least, this includes the Next Gen version of The Witcher 3which had to be postponed recently, but is due out later this year.
Most of the team is currently busy with the first major DLC for Cyberpunk 2077. Official is except for a release period and that there will be a new storyline is little known, but thanks to a huge leak we could already know a lot about the story and the planned content.
