Tens of thousands of fans are celebrating a new emote in Destiny 2, even though it costs real money

The new Season 17 has started in Destiny 2, which brought some innovations. This also includes an emote that you can buy in the shop right now – and that enchants a lot of fans.

What is this emote? The new emote is called “True Companion” and in the new season 17 many Destiny 2 players will fulfill a long-cherished wish: finally you can pet a dog in the game!

The description reads “Forever a Warden’s best friend”. If you summon the dog with the gesture, your new companion gets a small pat on the head and then stays at your side until you move from the spot.

How to get the emote: You can only get the exotic emote in the shop right now, in exchange for 1,000 silver. You can only get silver in exchange for real money – 1,000 silver is about 9.99 euros.

However, 100% of proceeds from this emote will go to charity for the Bungie Foundation. That’s also one of the reasons why the emote is popular with so many players – and of course because you can pet a dog.

How fans react: A short clip of the emote was shared on the “gaming” subreddit, which quickly became one of the top posts there. To date, the post has received over 42,000 upvotes and over 900 comments.

Many comments praise the new gesture in Destiny 2:

  • “There should be a dog friend in every game,” says user Antisound187 (via reddit).
  • “A roller coaster of emotions. Destiny 2 added a dog pet emote – Yes! In the shop – fuck it! The proceeds go to charity – so good,” describes user Jappy_toutou (via reddit).
  • “We are so infatuated with the best bois, I love it,” writes AcidAlchamy (via reddit).
  • “I bought it straight away without seeing that it was for charity, and I’m glad it’s for charity and I’m getting a good dog out of it,” enthuses user Zerosurvivors (via reddit).

But many are also just happy that they can finally pet a dog, after this was only possible with cats and chickens before.

This is what makes the emote special: As Bungie describes in the current blog post, there is a backstory to the emote (via bungie.com).

The dog is said to be a real Belgian Shepherd named Artemis. This canine appears to play an important role in a special Guardian’s story of “resilience, recovery, and triumph made possible only by the Destiny community and their canine, Artemis.”

Destiny 2 shows new dungeon in exciting trailer – “I am the end”

Bungie only wants to reveal what exactly is behind it on “Bungie Day”. So here it is a matter of waiting.

Basically, animal companions and the like are always a topic in different games. With Elden Ring, for example, fans made fun of simply calling every animal a dog. However, things got confusing when a guy who wanted to live as a turtle in the game showed up.
