Building proposal with assembly and tuning: RX 6700 XT with the Ryzen 7 5700X

from Leo Smith
If the upper class is too expensive and the lower middle segment offers too little performance, there is only the world in between with the “upper middle class” – this time with AMD in a double pack with the Ryzen 7 5700X and the RX 6700 XT.

An efficient combination of processor and graphics card for demanding loads has been found with the 8-core AMD Ryzen 7 5700X and the RX 6700 XT with 12 GiB video memory. With enough power for native WQHD resolutions in blockbuster titles particularly favored by AMD, such as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, there is also enough room for improvement for 4K monitors or higher frame rates thanks to the in-game upscaling method FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR for short). On the other hand, compromises will have to be made with the expensive form of lighting ray tracing, especially with Nvidia flagship projects such as Minecraft RTX or Metro Exodus: Enhanced Edition. Although ray tracing is definitely supported by the RX 6700 XT and is even more powerful with exceptions such as Far Cry 6, overall Nvidia’s performance is more attractive here. In normal rasterizing mode, however, the comparison looks much more balanced and the RX cards often scale slightly better in the Full HD and WQHD range (see GPU index).

In terms of price, there is great potential for savings, mainly outside of the main CPU/GPU components, so that the same construction proposal can already be reached for 1,250 to 1,300 euros. With particularly cheap offers including alternative hardware, the 1,150 euro range can also be roughly targeted. The full written article can be found in PCGH issue 07/2022.
