Windows 10 Update: Patch KB5014023 brings this
bug fixes and more
If you want to keep your Windows 10 PC up to date, you can get a new optional update. Patch KB5014023 brings welcome bug fixes.
news
A new patch, KB5014023, is available in the Windows 10 update settings. Untypically, this download comes at the beginning of the month and thus only a short time before the regular patch day. It brings the build numbers 19044.1741, 19043.1741 and 19042.1741 for the Windows 10 versions 21H2, 21H1 and 20H2.
The reasons for the appointment could be assumed to be acute bugs, which increased noticeably in May and could not be finally solved in the insider program by the end of the month. The patch is optional and must be triggered manually. Alternatively, it can be imported via an installer via the Windows Update Catalog.
The patch KB5014023 for Windows 10 does not contain any security updates, there are only adjustments to features and modules that address current problems or increase comfort. For example, there was a problem that could prevent Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Outlook from starting. File transfers or copying processes could also take a noticeably long time. Previously, apps with certain graphics chips that were supposed to work in “Direct3D 9” mode also caused problems.
At other points in KB5014023 for Windows 10, Microsoft mentions a fixed memory leak on computers that are permanently in use. Internet shortcuts would not update and BitLocker’s silent mode would break encryption features. There could be display errors with the mouse pointer on Edge and Remote–Desktop clients could crash when ending a session.
Known bugs include custom ISO files for a fresh install, missing updates on certain devices, and an error in the Windows 10 screenshot app. For more points, see the patch log of KB5014023 on the Microsoft websites.
If your computer runs without problems, you can search for new downloads in the settings under Updates and have the optional patch installed. The said installer can be found in the Update Catalog. The changes will be installed on patch day in a week and a half at the latest, together with the current security updates.
