Amazon is one of the largest PS5 retailers in Germany. However, sales there could soon change massively. There was a decisive change abroad.

Hamburg – Sony’s PS5 is sold particularly often on Amazon in Germany. In the case of a drop, more than 10,000 consoles sometimes go over the digital counter. Whoever is the fastest here is often rewarded. But that could all change soon, because the mail order company has already switched to selling the PS5 in the USA. This could make it significantly harder to get a console. We’ll show you all the details.

Console name PlayStation 5 (PS5)
Manufacturer Sony Interactive Entertainment (YOU)

Buy PS5: Amazon changes console sales in the USA

What happened in the US: Similar to Germany, Amazon is also one of the largest PS5 suppliers in the USA. The rush for the console is also huge there and drops are sold out within minutes. The huge rush not only leaves many sad fans, but also overloads Amazon’s servers. The mail order company now wants to counteract this with a new strategy.

In the future, invitations for drops will be distributed at Amazon in the USA. You can register there in advance and, with a bit of luck, you will receive an invitation. You can then visit Amazon at a certain time and dust off the console without much stress.

This can be compared: In Germany we know the PlayStation Direct invitation principle. Sony also distributes invitations there in advance, which are then valid for a certain period of time. While this makes for less stress, many fans don’t receive an invite and go away empty-handed without even having a chance at a console.

Buy PS5: Amazon change also in Germany? That would be the impact

Why is this transition so bad? At first glance, this adjustment could make many fans finally get to the PS5. After all, the stress of placing an order would be over. However, you need a lot of luck to get an invitation. Scalpers wouldn’t be excluded either, as they could simply create multiple Amazon accounts and earn invites as a result.

So you no longer have it in your own hands whether you get a PS5, but have to hope for the luck of the invitation. Speed and effectiveness would not be rewarded.

However, there are still no indications that Amazon will change its system in Germany. It may be a test in the USA first and then conclusions will be drawn from it. But it wouldn’t be a surprise if this change would soon be implemented in Europe as well. We will inform you about the current situation at Amazon and all other retailers in our live ticker about buying PS5.
