Escape from Tarkov: New arena-based deathmatch mode

from Maximilian Hohm
Escape from Tarkov is scheduled to feature a new arena-based deathmatch mode later this fall. This can be seen as a reaction to various influencing factors and should also appeal to less involved players. Read more about this below.

Unlike many shooter franchises at the moment, Escape from Tarkov has no image problems, no embarrassing player numbers and is very popular with its community despite the high level of difficulty. The title from Battlestate Games is still receiving content updates five years after its release, the latest of which is said to bring a standalone deathmatch mode into play. Now one can ask what prompted the developers to integrate such a mode into their survival game and there are several possible answers.

Escape from Tarkov should not suffer from Russian sanctions, the developers say

One of them has to do with the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Unlike many well-known names in the industry such as Activision Blizzard, EA and Epic Games, which make up a large part of the currently popular shooters, the development studio Battlestate Games comes from Russia. While the development studio has yet to comment on the conflict, it still represents one of the few alternatives for Russian players that have emerged as the big names in the industry have left and may be attempting to fill the niche with new content.

Another logic that is also conceivable from an economic point of view would be that the company is fed up with seeing its originally developed game concept in more and more other titles and has therefore decided to develop some popular game modes itself based on foreign models, which Escape from Tarkov also offers for casual players, that have not been around for years, make them playable and thus expand the customer base. Arena will be available as an expansion for EoD Pack owners free of charge, while all other players will have to purchase it separately. An exact release date is not yet known, but the developers are aiming for autumn of this year.
