It’s frustrating! In Diablo Immortal, Battle Pass and items are tied to characters and servers

After a long wait, a new Diablo offshoot for iOS, Android and a beta version for the PC was finally released on June 2nd. But Diablo Immortal got off to a mixed start. While it’s celebrated by players for its smooth gameplay and cool dungeons, the in-game shop has hit many with its aggressive monetization. Those who bought one of the chic armor sets there also quickly made an unpleasant discovery.

All on one character

While fancy, cosmetic sets are very expensive and not available for your other characters.

Items in Diablo Immortal don’t come cheap. A fancy armor set will cost you 1000 Eternal Orbs, the game’s premium currency. You get 1650 balls for 24.99 eurosas the smallest possible package.

Unfortunately, now it turns out that the purchased cosmetic items only tied to a character are. So if you want to try a second class, you’ll be asked to pay again should you want to use the set. Even if you create a second character of the same class on a different server, you will still be denied access to the paid set.

On Reddit, there are increasing demands that Blizzard must change the system here as soon as possible. Because many players are willing to invest some money, but not under these conditions:

Lost Battle Pass rewards

The Battle Pass also suffers from the same problem. Although this starts for all your characters at level 1 and you can work your way through it normally, you only get some of the rewards with one character.

The Battle Pass is server-bound. If you start on a new server, you have to buy it again.

Items you’ve requested through the pass will be denied to your alternate characters, which is especially penalizing for players who would like to try different classes.

Server binding prevents interaction

Especially in the beginning, players rushed to the first available server when they created their starting character. Unfortunately, you will then no longer be able to play together with friends who are based on other servers.

There is no way to change the server yet. You will then have to start over, losing all your progress and of course everything you have purchased in the Diablo Immortal shop. You also have to buy the Battle Pass again.

At the moment, Blizzard isn’t doing itself any favors with its shop. Even discounting the aggressive monetization and exorbitant prices, tying items to a character is a nasty faux pas. Diablo in particular lives from its different classes, which with their different ways of playing are an integral part of the long-term motivation. Binding players to a character with their expenses in the shop or asking them to pay for several classes seems unnecessarily greedy.

Conclusion on monetization will appear later

With our final review of Diablo Immortal, we’re taking some time to test the endgame and the effects of the shop. But in the meantime we ask you:

How are you enjoying Diablo Immortal so far?
