Thanks to FSR 2.0, God of War even runs on a Radeon 660M in 1080p

The Tech Epiphany YouTube channel tried out God of War on a Radeon 660M and achieved playable frame rates thanks to FSR 2.0.

Upscaling techniques such as Nvidia’s DLSS or AMD’s Fidelity FX Super Resolution (FSR) are mostly advertised for use with high resolutions and in combination with fairly modern, powerful hardware. At the same time, the performance advantages possible through upscaling are particularly exciting for weak systems, since some games can only be made playable in the first place.

Playable thanks to FSR 2.0

An example of this was recently uploaded from the Youtube channel Tech Epiphany released. A benchmark video shows how well God of War runs on a Ryzen 5 6600H using FSR 2.0. As a reminder: The developers actually name a GTX 960 or an RX 290X as the minimum requirement for the game. In contrast, a Radeon 660M works in the Ryzen 5 6600H, which relies on the much more modern RDNA2 architecture, but also only on 384 shaders and a quite restrained clock of 1.9 GHz.

Nevertheless, God of War seems to run quite well on the Radeon 660M. In the YouTube video, the game is calculated in both balanced and performance mode, and the 30 fps at 1080p are achieved and largely maintained in both scenarios. There are also individual sections with just under 30 fps, but overall God of War should be playable with it.

Just as exciting: Hitman 3: Raytracing, DLSS and FSR come with Patch 3.110

This is made possible by the very low resolution, which is calculated in balanced and performance mode. Depending on the built-in Radeon 660M only has to calculate the image in 635p or 540p, which corresponds to a significantly smaller amount of pixels. The quality achieved with this should not quite come close to that of the native resolution, but at least games like God of War can be played on such a weak GPU thanks to FSR 2.0.
