WoW Lore: The Story of Dagran Thaurissan
There are three major dwarf clans in Azeroth. Two of them, the Wildhammers and the Bronzebeards, fight for peace alongside the Alliance. But the third, the Dark Iron dwarves, went their own way and brought ruin to Azeroth. They are responsible for the fire lord Ragnaros finding a way back to Azeroth. They are led by Dagran Thaurissan, self-proclaimed emperor and lord of the Blackrock Depths. Although he hid deep within Blackrock, the little dwarf had great influence on the history of Azeroth and the politics of the Alliance.

The War of the Three Hammers
The three dwarven clans were once closely linked, loyally standing by each other in battle – but then the War of the Three Hammers ensued. The dwarven clans now fought each other and a centuries-old friendship shattered. While the Bronzebeards and Wildhammers once again approached each other in peace, the Dark Iron dwarves split completely from their brethren. Dagran’s father, known simply as Thaurissan, established his own city in the Redridge Mountains and from there continued his war against the other two dwarven clans.

Thaurissan and his wife Modgud were very gifted in magic and studied ancient writings and spells. In doing so, they encountered a dangerous incantation. To gain an advantage against the other clans, they invoked the ancient elemental lord Ragnaros, banished from Azeroth by the titans millennia ago. The tremendous forces unleashed destroyed much of the Redridge Mountains, turning it into the Burning Steppes, dominated by a newly formed flaming volcano. Unfortunately, the plan only partially worked out. Ragnaros would not let a few little dwarves subdue him, but made them his subjects. Nonetheless, he helped them continue their feud with the other dwarven clans. However, with moderate success.
Thaurissan was killed in a takeover attempt in Ironforge, his wife Modgud died in Grim Batol at the same time. After that, her son Dagran took over the leadership of the Dark Iron dwarves. His hatred of the other clans matched that of his parents and he was determined to complete his father’s plans. He was also completely at the will of the Firelord. His dwarves guarded the entrance to Ragnaro’s caves in the underground city of Shadowforge. In return, the Firelord reinforced the ranks of the dwarves with his elementals. A perfect collaboration, even if the Dark Irons couldn’t do anything against the combined Bronzebeards and Wildhammers.
Ragnaros’ servants can also be found throughout the Shadowforge, supporting the ranks of the dwarves with concentrated firepower. [Quelle: buffed]
The kidnapping of Moira
But Dagran was extremely clever. He knew he couldn’t win with direct force, so he thought of another way. He had Moira, the daughter of Ironforge’s ruler Magni Bronzebeard, kidnapped and brought to him in the Shadowforge. There he put a spell on her to make her docile to him. In this way he had an effective leverage against his old enemies. Magni rampaged and sent numerous rescue teams into Blackrock Depths, with little success. But that wasn’t to be the worst thing Magni Bronzebeard had to endure.

A group of adventurers finally managed to penetrate into the Emperor’s throne room. They killed Dagran, but there was no question of victory. Because Moira was no longer under the spell of Dagran, but felt real love for him. She was devastated by his death and refused to return to Ironforge with her rescuers. Instead, she sent a message to Magni: She would become the new ruler of the Dark Iron dwarves, and her unborn child would continue not only the lineage of the Dark Iron clan, but also that of the Bronzebeards. This would also give her child claim to the throne of Ironforge!
Dagran himself did not live to see his triumph, but his heir would finally achieve what he always wanted: become Lord of Ironforge. After the recent events after the Cataclysm, Moira has also returned to Ironforge with her son Fenran. As the leader of the Dark Iron dwarves, she is a member of the Council of Three Hammers. Circumstances and the destruction of the world had made this alliance necessary. But she knows: Dagran’s dream will be fulfilled by his son. One day, Fenran will take the throne of Ironforge and rule over two of the three dwarven clans!
