the E3 is to take place again next year as a face-to-face event including live streams. At least that’s what the chairman of the organizing industry association Entertainment Software Association said, Stan Pierre-Louis, the Washington Post in an interview:

We are very excited to return in 2023 with a digital and on-site event. As much as we love these all-digital events and the global reach they bring, we also know that there is a strong desire from people to meet in person, to connect, and to share what makes games great.

Pierre-Louis has not yet given any details about the event. With the advent of Covid-19, E3 2020 was completely cancelled, a year ago it was held purely digitally. The fair is canceled again this year. Whether it can really take place in person next year will also depend on how the pandemic develops by then.
