Netflix: First details on Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

A first look at Cyberpunk: Edgerunners series is coming to Netflix in September.

CD PROJEKT RED, the creators of Cyberpunk 2077, teamed up with Netflix and Studio Trigger to present new footage for the upcoming anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, including a new key visual, a teaser trailer and a behind-the-scenes look at the production. The companies also announced that the series will premiere in September this year.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was presented in motion for the first time as part of Netflix Geeked Week, an event dedicated to series, films and games related to geek culture available on the streaming platform and coming soon shown – in the form of a teaser trailer and the first of a series of behind-the-scenes videos. Featuring commentary from CD PROJEKT RED staff involved in the development of the series, the documentary also features early images and concept art, as well as an exclusive clip and scene excerpts from the anime. Future behind-the-scenes videos will cover more aspects of the series – with additional insights provided directly by members of Studio Trigger.

Drawn by series lead character designer Yoh Yoshinari and released as part of Geeked Week, the new Cyberpunk: Edgerunners key visual features series protagonists David and Lucy. The couple can also be seen in the teaser trailer and behind-the-scenes video, along with other main and supporting characters of the series.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a standalone ten-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in a future city. A city that is all about technology and the body modifications that it has made possible. With everything to lose, he decides to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner. The show is being developed by acclaimed game development studio CD PROJEKT RED, with the creative talents of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt contributing to the project. The world of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is brought to life by acclaimed Japanese animation company Studio Trigger, and directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi (Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill, Promare). Yoh Yoshinari (Little Witch Academia, BNA: Brand New Animal) serves as both lead character designer and executive animation director. Masahiko Otsuka (Star Wars: Visions ‘The Elder’) and Yoshiki Usa (GRIDMAN UNIVERSE series) are in charge of the script, based on the story provided by CD PROJEKT RED. The original music was composed by Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill series).
