Stormgate: The RTS will take you to sci-fi hell in next year’s beta
The trailer for the brand new game from Frost Giant Studios starts with the beautiful Northern Lights. However, the Stormgate video quickly turns in a different direction.

The calm mood of the night sky quickly turns into a battlefield with large demonic opponents. In addition to these fantasy enemies, the real-time strategy game also has many sci-fi elements such as battle robots, holograms and little robot helpers.
The title doesn’t seem quite as scary as many other games at the Summer Game Fest 2022. But maybe that’s not so bad. On these pictures you get an impression of the gameplay:
Alone or in a group you can play campaign missions or compete in ranked matches or enter the 3vE mode, in which you fight in threes against the AI. For the creative among you there is an editor and the possibility to create your own games that you can share in the community.
Frost Giant Studios also has some StarCraft veterans working on Stormgate. The title is intended to unite “past, present and future”, says CEO Tim Mortensen. He wants to make the RTS genre “thrive” again with the free-to-play title.
To show what’s in the genre, Stormgate is being developed with Unreal Engine 5, enabling high-resolution graphics and said to have a variety of maps. The story takes place after the near-total annihilation of humanity by a playable alien faction that came to Earth through the eponymous Stormgates.
If you like this wild mix of hellish enemies and a sci-fi scenario, there’s good news because the game is coming to Steam – for free. You can already register for the beta of the free-to-play title. You’ll have to wait until 2023 to actually try out Stormgate. The title will be shown again at the PC Gaming Show on June 12th.
