Xbox Design Lab will soon let you design your controllers even more diverse and we tried it

Since the middle of last year you can register in the Xbox Design Lab Assemble and order personalized Xbox controllers. There are already a variety of different colors, designs, options for the coloring of the buttons and a number of other customization options. Microsoft has now officially announced that it intends to offer even more options in the Xbox Design Lab in the future. We were able to play around with the additional features beforehand.

Important NOTE: A few weeks ago we were able to access the revised version of the Xbox Design Lab and were able to use a voucher provided by Microsoft to put together a controller free of charge and have it sent to us.

In principle, the update and the new options do not change anything in the actual structure of the Design Lab. You still have the choice of different colors, adjustments to the sticks, buttons or an individual engraving. The following new design options are now available in the editor:

  • Additional Top Cases: Mineral Camo, Forest Camo, Sandglow Camo, Blaze Camo (extra charge)
  • Additional colors: Soft Pink, Soft Orange, Soft Green, Soft Purple, Astral Purple
  • Metallic finishes: Available for D-Pad and Trigger (extra charge)

The camouflage top cases are new and cost just under 10 euros extra.

More variety for your controllers

Camouflage themes have existed in the past on some variants released directly by Microsoft, and are now available in the Design Lab as well. It should be mentioned here that the surface appears very restless due to the patterns and the control elements can even be a bit more difficult to recognize as a result – probably not everyone will like that.

The addition of pastel colors, on the other hand, should find significantly more fans, because this color palette is much more subtle and reserved than some of the previously available colors such as bright orange. For example, the soft pink variant we have put together – with sticks in the same color – looks almost skin-colored and quite elegant in nature.

The metallic finishes look classier in reality than in pictures.

The newly available metallic surfaces clearly underline this impression once again. Here, too, the effect is clearly recognizable, but still kept rather subtle, so there is no excessive “bling-bling” impression, especially since the options are limited to the D-Pad and the triggers.

How do you like the new options in the Xbox Design Lab? Have you ever ordered a controller there?
