The little grapple hammer in Destiny 2 is popular, but obviously hard to tame. The Titan’s powerful melee ability should have been corrected several times already. But this week it turned out that the damage was not reduced at all. MeinMMO tells you what Bungie has now announced afterwards and what effects this has on the damage of the small throwing hammer.
What customization did Bungie forget to mention? Already in December 2021 and in the big update 4.1.0. By May 2022, Bungie had announced changes to the Small Grapplehammer, one of the Titan’s melee abilities.
There, the much too strong combination of “roaring flames” and a few melee exotics, such as “synthoceps” or “worm god touch” should be corrected. They did more damage than intended. But even after the updates, the little throwing hammer was hardly weaker and the titans continued to hammer their way solo through the toughest endgame activities.
Bungie has now declared on Twitter that they simply failed to reduce the damage. The community manager provided information on Twitter:
Is it a “stealth nerf”? Although it was initially changed in the patch note without further information, it actually wasn’t a nerf. The change was already known, just didn’t work.
Destiny 2 nerfs far too strong Exotic for the 3rd time – Guardians still kill bosses with a few hits
42% less damage for popular Titan melee combo
What does that mean for the damage? First of all, it can be said that the damage is now behaving as Bungie had planned.
- Roaring Flames:
- Now activated by Solar ability kills and Solar Ignite kills.
- Now deals 20% increased ability damage to fighters per stack instead of 30%.
So the melee damage bonus is reduced when the perks of Peregrine Falcon Greaves, Double Punch, Worm God Touch, or Synthoceps are active. In PvP, this means 13 instead of around 25% increased ability damage to players per stack.
The player LegoWitch tested this and the exact changes of the damage published on reddit. He ends up with a 42% nerf for the Synthoceps and Raging Flames combo x3.
Normally, roaring flames will give you a 1.2x multiplier per stack. If you added any of the above melee exotics prior to the patch, you got roughly 1.31x per stack, with the difference adding up to a ~33% increase in Roaring Flames x3 with Syntho over the expected interaction .
Post-patch this was fixed to properly reduce damage on each stack. So if you add Synthoceps, Roaring Flames will give you a 1.1x multiplier for each stack.
The difference at x3 is about 23%. If you switch from the erroneous increase to the intended reduction, you’ll get a 0.77x / 1.33x = 0.58x multiplier, or a 42 percent nerf to the Syntho and Roaring Flames combo x3.
explains LegoWitch on reddit the change
Titan Grapplehammer melee still strong enough: Even after this change, the Titans have nothing to worry about. Even if some solo endgame activities can no longer be done in easy mode, the Titan’s small grapple hammer with “Raging Flames” x3 and an Exotic still does decent damage.
The German YouTuber Miftaka also explains this and sweeps through a Lost Sector with his Titan:
What do you think of the subsequent information? Have you noticed the change to your Titan at all? Or did you not notice it at all? Feel free to leave us a titanic comment and tell us what you think about the adjustments to the little hammer or if you prefer to use other options.
