Deaths Door - Launch trailer for the indie hit introduces the magical game world

Death’s Door – Launch trailer for the indie hit introduces the magical game world

Death’s Door was one of the big indie surprise hits of the last year. We control a crow whose task is to harvest the souls of the dead. However, when one of these souls is stolen from us, we must embark on an adventurous journey through a world between life and death to confront the thief and get it back. From a top-down perspective, we explore varied and imaginative areas full of bizarre characters and fight powerful creatures that cling to life with all their might. In terms of gameplay, the action-adventure can be quite demanding at times, especially in the boss fights, which are divided into several phases. Nevertheless, it is always fair in the end.

Jurassic World Evolution 2 - New trailer shows why the dinosaurs are the star of the game

Jurassic World Evolution 2 – New trailer shows why the dinosaurs are the star of the game

As in the predecessor, we can also create our own dinosaur amusement park in Jurassic World Evolution 2. The construction game shines not least because of its nicely animated and believable animals. The administration and management part is again kept rather simple so that we can focus on the 75 different dinosaurs. However, since chaos can break out more often now, for example due to tropical storms that interrupt the energy supply, Part 2 is still a bit more demanding than its predecessor. The fairly short but nice story campaign is narrated by Ian Malcolm, played by Jeff Goldblum, and serves as an introduction to the sandbox mode.

Cuphead - launch trailer for the heavy Jump+Run

Cuphead – launch trailer for the heavy Jump&Run

Cuphead is a 2D action game that impresses at first glance with its art design reminiscent of a 1930’s cartoon. We play as a cute little character with a cup-shaped head who has to collect the souls of sinners to pay off a gambling debt to the devil. The boss fights against those same sinners are the most interesting part of the game. Cuphead mixes jump-and-run gameplay with elements of a bullet hell shooter in intense battles against enemies like a giant carrot, a snake-haired Medusa, or a phantom train. For a change, there are also traditional Jump&Run levels in between. You can play alone or with two people in co-op.

The Ascent: Trailer for the sci-fi Diablo

The Ascent: Trailer for the sci-fi Diablo

The Ascent is an open-world action game in a cyberpunk scenario, in which we slice our way through masses of enemies from a top-down perspective in a dark metropolis. The story about evil corporations is rather secondary, but the action is a lot of fun thanks to good gunplay and many cool weapons and skills. This is all the more true since The Ascent stages the latter in a graphically effective way and otherwise looks pretty good. It also has extensive progression mechanics that make it close to a Diablo-style RPG. You can play alone or in co-op with up to three other players, both locally and online.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance - Test Video: Open World with cutting edge

Kingdom Come: Deliverance – Test Video: Open World with cutting edge

With the Royal Edition of Kingdom Come: Deliverance you get all five story DLCs in addition to the main game. Kingdom Come: Deliverance is an open-world role-playing game set in the Middle Ages that dispenses with the usual fantasy elements and instead draws a comparatively realistic picture of the time. However, this also means that we must first work out our place in the society into which we are born as the son of a blacksmith (although we also take on other roles in DLC’s such as A Woman’s Lot). This can be exhausting in places, but it is all the more satisfying to see the result of our slow ascent at the end.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Test Video: A MUST for RPG fans!

Divinity: Original Sin 2 is the place to be if you’re in the mood for another old-school, complex role-playing game. With our group of heroes we roam a classic fantasy world and experience epic stories in which we enjoy great freedom of choice. At least as good are the turn-based battles, which have a lot of depth due to the countless different skills and tactical possibilities and are just as exciting as in XCOM. You can either control all the characters in your party yourself in single player or share responsibility in online co-op.

Hunt Showdown gets you in the mood for the new map with gameplay + a great soundtrack

Hunt Showdown gets you in the mood for the new map with gameplay and a great soundtrack

Hunt: Showdown by German studio Crytek is a multiplayer shooter that combines battle royale with co-op and elements of a horror game. Several small teams go in search of a dangerous monster in gloomy landscapes, for which they have to follow tracks and fight against various smaller enemies along the way. Once a team has finally slain the monster after a spectacular boss fight, they still have to escape from the area with the loot. At that moment, it goes from being the hunter to being the hunted, as the other teams can easily kill it and snatch away the surely stolen reward. This dynamic keeps Hunt: Showdown interesting even after countless rounds.

Superliminal - Gameplay trailer for the PS4 version of the completely twisted puzzle game

Superliminal – Gameplay trailer for the PS4 version of the completely twisted puzzle game

Reminiscent of titles like Portal or Antichamber, Superliminal is one of the smartest and most creative puzzle games of recent years. The unique game mechanic is that we can change and enlarge or reduce objects by looking at them from different perspectives. The tricky levels also like to work with optical illusions that make obstacles appear insurmountable, which, viewed from the right angle, are not a problem at all. The puzzle gameplay is framed by a story revolving around a dream the main character just can’t wake from and the mysterious Dr. Pierce, who seems to be to blame.

Tormented Souls - Resident Evil and Silent Hill alternative launch trailer

1:41

Tormented Souls – Resident Evil and Silent Hill alternative launch trailer

Despite the name, Tormented Souls isn’t Soulslike, but offers old-school survival horror in the style of early Resident Evil games. Like back then, we explore a spooky building, in this case an old hospital, where strange experiments are taking place. The fixed camera angles take away a bit of freedom, but they allow for a skilful staging that always leaves us wondering what’s lurking in the blind spot. Tormented Souls is also old-fashioned in other respects, such as manual saves at fixed points. For everyone who wants good old horror in front of a mysterious backdrop, it’s exactly the right thing, but you have to do without a lot of modern comfort.

Sherlock Holmes: Crimes + Punishments - Launch Trailer: Detective at work

Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments – Launch Trailer: Detective at work

Crimes and Punishments is considered one of the best installments in the Sherlock Holmes series from Frogwares (The Sinking City). The fact that the adventure is already a few years old doesn’t change its quality. In the guise of the famous private detective, we solve six spectacular criminal cases by investigating crime scenes, interrogating witnesses and finally putting the collected evidence together to form an overall picture of the past events. In doing so, we get a comparatively large amount of playful freedom to solve the puzzles in our own way. however, this means that it can also happen that we end up accusing the wrong person and sending him to prison.
