Preview Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak: That’s the add-on!

Sunbreak says goodbye to the Japano setting and instead offers western locations such as castle ruins. A welcome relief.

With Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, Capcom will soon be releasing a mammoth update for Monster Hunter Rise, which is said to be similar in size to Iceborne. If you can’t imagine what that means: Iceborne, the mega expansion for Monster Hunter World, has almost doubled the content of the basic adventure. The paid DLC built on the mechanics of the base game, but expanded all aspects and made it even more fun. You can find out in our preview whether the Rise expansion looks just as promising at first glance and what it contains!

Already in Rise we were able to customize our playstyle and the new rope arts for each weapon. Now it goes one step further, because not only are there a lot of new attacks, we can even choose between two different personalized fighting styles in battle. With this change we are prepared for all situations. We can even use an evasive jump if we change our style. So in Sunbreak we have more options than before, while still being as acrobatic as we were in the base game.

In our session we had time to go on two hunts. One of them was single player against old friend Seregios, but we weren’t alone! At our side: NPC hunters, which we meet in the story of Sunbreak. So now, for the first time in Monster Hunter history, NPCs are hunting alongside us, and contrary to all expectations, the characters’ AI works flawlessly!

The partners heal us, set traps and even ride monsters. Almost as if we were online – this way the dialogues appear more believable in between. It’s always been weird when a character who’s never fought before wants to give us advice.
