Resident Evil 4: This is what the Unreal Engine 5 remake could look like

from Norman Wittkopf
The horror classic Resident Evil 4 will be rebooted next year with the RE engine. Meanwhile, a current fan concept shows what it could look like with the Unreal Engine 5.

After Resident Evil 3 last received a remake in 2020, it will be the turn of the successor Resident Evil 4 in March 2023, as announced just a few days ago as part of Sony’s “State of Play”. As with all recent parts of the popular horror game series from Capcom, the in-house RE engine is used, although this time only the current consoles in the form of Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S are used in addition to the PC and no longer their predecessors.

In view of “different reactions to the graphic changes” of the upcoming remake of Resident Evil 4, the YouTube channel “TeaserPlay”, which has already made an impressive appearance for its concept videos for well-known games, has adopted a replica with Epic Games current Unreal Engine 5.

According to the description, they tried to “give an overview of the gameplay and the possible graphics with the Unreal Engine and to determine what we and the fans expect of the final version”. Whether this ultimately necessarily looks better than what Capcom showed in the first trailer for the remake is of course also in the eye of the beholder, but it is always worth a look and comparison.

Remake not only in the graphics

Meanwhile, Capcom is not only planning a graphic overhaul with the remake, but also content adjustments. As part of the announcement on the official Playstation blog, it was said that they wanted to create a modern, high-quality survival horror suitable for 2023, “which at the same time preserves the essence of the original game”. For this purpose, the story line should also be redesigned, “but essentially the direction should be retained” and the control should “adapt to modern standards”.
