One Piece: A comparison between the ships in the anime and the Netflix series

As part of this year’s Netflix Geeked Week events presented the VoD provider for the first time a One Piece video with concept drawings and pictures of the impressive ship replicas. We want to compare them with their anime counterparts below.

Ship #1: Miss Love Duck

The first ship we see in the behind-the-scenes video is the Miss Love Duck. This is the ship of the Villain Lady Alvida. It’s beyond the first pirate shipwhich we see in the One Piece anime.

This is one three-master, which has a distinctive pink exterior. The four big sails are decorated with big red hearts. The figurehead is a big duck head with heart eyes.

Those responsible for Netflix’s “One Piece” series are largely based very closely on what we already know from the anime. Here, too, the Miss Love Duck is a three-master, but has in comparison a slightly different design. For example, the figurehead sees something more realistic out.

The ship has in this version more sailson which of course big hearts can be seen, and the pink color is even more prominent. In addition, not only the outer facade shines in said color, but also the figurehead. Furthermore, the pink cannonballs decorated with hearts.

Ship #2: Going Merry/Flying Lamb

Now we come to the first ship of the straw hat gang, the Going Merry or the Flying Lamb, as it is called in the German translation of the “One Piece” anime. Your little lamb, as Luffy & Co. call the caravel, is a Gift from Miss Kayaa friend of Usopp.

The ship has one of the presumably most striking figureheads the whole series and is served by one Square sail on the main mast and a lateen sail in the rear. Although it is only a small ship, it offers inside enough space for up to seven people.

In the upcoming Netflix series, the creators have the going merry largely recreated in great detail. Based on the BTS video, it looks like the little caravel compared to the One Piece anime borrowed directly from it.

Opinions should only differ on the design of the figurehead, because so sweet and innocent as in the template, the live-action version does not work. In addition, the appearance of the logo of the Straw Hat Pirates was also improved slightly changedbecause the skull looks a little different than in the original.

Ship #3: Baratie

The ship restaurant Baratie is one of the central scenes of action of the East Blue arcs in One Piece, which was the site of several important battles. It’s a restaurant on the high seas that is known for being excellent food is just as famous as for the fighting cooks.

An important element is the two extendable platforms on the sides and also the fish head at the front of the bar is a real eye-catcher. However, this not only looks chic, because the Mackerel head #1 is in truth a small detachable Gunboat just in case!

The concept art of the interior of the Netflix Baratie gives the impression of an opulent restaurant, whose interior looks more noble compared to the “One Piece” anime. Externally, the makers orientate themselves for it pretty clear on the template and seem to have meticulously recreated them.

However, the makers seem to allow themselves a few creative liberties. The fish head on the Baratie’s bow shines in the Netflix version not to be a gunboat. Instead it is inside a barwhich, according to the statements in the BTS video, will become Zoro’s favorite place.

So, as you can see, Netflix’s One Piece series are in charge noticeably passionate about the matterto bring the world of the anime series to life believably in live action.
