Court: 40 clauses in PlayStation T&Cs invalid

The Association for Consumer Information (VKI) had sued Sony Interactive Entertainment because of their general terms and conditions for the PlayStation, whereupon the Vienna Higher Regional Court recognized 40 clauses as inadmissible – not legally binding.

According to the VKI, the penalties included the expiry of credit, the automatic conversion of free subscriptions into paid subscriptions if they were not canceled in good time, as well as liability regulations for parents. The judgment is particularly relevant because other gaming platforms and online services sometimes have very similar clauses,” said the VKI in a broadcast.
