FIFA 23: Leak shows important detail that Ultimate Team could do much better

The successor to FIFA 22 will apparently change how you can use your players in Ultimate Team. This should have an impact on the formations in FIFA 23.

Where is the leak coming from? The leak comes from Twitter user “FutSheriff”which has proven to be extremely reliable over the course of FIFA 22, especially with regard to events and new maps.

On his channel, the leaker explains that FIFA 23 will probably bring a change to Ultimate Team. As a result, the “position modifiers” should be changed.

It was like this so far: It is currently the case in FUT that there are different position modifiers – for example from center forward (MS) to central attacking midfield (ZOM), or left wing (LF) to left midfield (LM).

There are a lot of cards here that you could basically use for any player as long as he had the appropriate position on the card. So you could even use a Mbappé as a central defensive midfielder through a lot of shenanigans – which is nonsense from a real football point of view, but can be useful in terms of FUT chemistry.

Leak shows: position changes are becoming more realistic

This is how it should be now: Instead of numerous modifiers, according to FutSherriff, there will only be one single modifier card in FIFA 23 that can be used on each player individually.

However, they should not be able to give you every position you want, but should be based on the respective player. That would mean: Every player in FUT would have 23 secondary positions besides their normal position to switch to.

We already know these positions from the career mode, where players often bring possible secondary positions with them.

How could this work? Let’s take Mbappé as an example: the attacker has the “ST” and “LF” positions in career mode. He can be set up in the storm, but also switch to the wing, for example.

That would now also be possible in FUT via the new modifier card and would open up completely new possibilities in terms of line-ups – because there is currently no change card for these positions. In the ZDM, where you can sometimes find him now, he is unlikely to appear in the future, because this is not one of his secondary positions.

Overall, the feature should bring a decent dose of realism to FUT, if it appears so. For some players, there would be more freedom in positioning, which should make new teams possible. At the same time, however, it also takes away a few options and you can no longer push players into completely confused positions.

It should be borne in mind that according to the current status, this is only a leak and not official information. It remains to be seen whether the feature will end up in the game in this form and then be used as expected.
