Mario Kart in Real Life: These real Home Circuit tracks are nothing short of impressive
Do you remember Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit? In what is probably the most unusual offshoot of the Fun Racer series to date, you steer a toy kart through your apartment, but you have a racing game perspective thanks to a built-in camera and you can build your own course with obstacles and a finish line.
I experimented a bit with it myself for my test and also came up with one or the other route, but I probably wasn’t too creative, which is why the box has been gathering dust in the corner ever since. Now that I see the video from Youtube channel Mutch Games I’ve seen it, but my fingers are itching to dig it out again.
A cup with “old” and new routes
Because Mutch Games has just put together a cup of self-made routes in Home Circuit. This is a mix of well-known and completely new routes:
- Baby Park: The very simple course, which is also available in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is just a big oval on which a lot of chaos is pre-programmed.
- Mutch Games Raceway: A series that consists entirely of game packaging (!).
- Banjo’s Rare ‘n’ Racecourse: One at the tutorial level of Banjo Kazooie based course that includes, among other things, the Spiral Mountain.
- Rainbow Road: A recreation of the SNES Rainbow track.
Mutch Games put an incredible amount of effort into building the tracks, so the result is equally impressive. For example, I’m particularly enthusiastic about the numerous details: A miniature roller coaster whizzes around at the Baby Park and toads jump up and down – just like the virtual model. And on the banjo course, the path leads, among other things, into the open mouth of the witch Gruntilda.

Holiday inspiration
Incidentally, the cup described above was not the first that Mutch Games has recreated. Check out his playlist for more examples of real life Mario Kart tracks. And I really notice how that inspires me a bit. Maybe next vacation I’ll pull myself together and build a replica of one of our favorite Mario Kart 8 Deluxe tracks with my daughter. If yes, I will let you know.
Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit is available for the Nintendo Switch and will continue to be available normally. There is a Mario and a Luigi variant, but Nintendo has not yet announced more drivers from the Mario Kart roster. You can read about what works and what doesn’t work well with the title in my Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit review article.
How do you like the video? And: Have you already recreated routes for Home Circuit yourself?
