Starfield: Seamless transition to space is 'not that important' to players

A seamless transition from planets to space or vice versa is not possible in Starfield.

According to game director Todd Howard, this aspect is “not that important” for the players.

Doesn’t justify the effort

And again, that doesn’t justify the extra effort Howard says would be required to program it.

“People have been asking, ‘Can you fly the ship directly to the planet?’ No”, says Howard. “We decided early on in development that the surface is one reality. And when you’re in space, that’s a different reality.”

More news about Starfield:

Starfield’s space combat, however, has been influenced by games like FTL and MechWarrior, according to Howard.

“There were a lot of space sims and space shooters from the ’90s that we really liked,” he explains. Ultimately, however, the Starfield development team wanted to create something that felt “unique”.

Starfield will be released in 2023 for Xbox Series X/S and PC and is said to offer around 1,000 planets you can land on.
