The Sims 5 Release: When is it? - Appointment, platforms & content

The publisher Electronic Arts and the developer studio maxis published the life simulation in 2014 The Sims 4 for PC, PS4, Xbox One and a little later for OS X. The game has since been released in five different versions, each containing different content. In addition, so far over 50 extensions released.

These include large expansions, accessories, bundles, gameplay and free packs. By early 2019 were titled over $1 billion in sales generated – at over 311 million units sold.

So it’s no wonder that a successor has been in the pipeline for a long time. But when will it appear? The Sims 5 and what content and features can we look forward to?

When is the Sims 5 coming out?

When will the Sims 5 be available? Although “The Sims 4” is still extremely popular and successful, there are still more and more calls for an official successor. After all, a whopping eight years have passed since the release and the current offshoot has long been beyond the normal life cycle of a Sims game. In view of the many extensions, which continue to be well received by the community, Electronics Arts can take its time in a relaxed manner.

In this case, it behaves a bit like Rockstar Games and GTA 5 or the very successful multiplayer “GTA Online”. Since its release in 2013, the developer studio has regularly supported the multiplayer component with minor updates and major extensions. Although it is already known that a GTA 6 is in development, but those responsible don’t seem to be in a hurry to release it.

Since EA has not yet announced a possible release date for “The Sims 5”, nor has the development officially confirmed, we can only speculate at this point for the time being. We therefore do not expect the title to be announced in 2022. We don’t expect an announcement until 2024 or 2025.

What platforms is The Sims 5 available for?

We firmly believe that The Sims 5 will be released for Windows and macOS. At the same time, players with a release for the two current-gen consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X/S count. It can at least be doubted whether the last generation of consoles will also be taken into account. The further the release date is pushed back, the less likely it is that PS4 and Xbox One will be supported.

What’s new in The Sims 5?

So far it is not known what content and innovations “The Sims 5” will receive. However, we can be fairly certain that the basic concept will remain largely unchanged. That means we create our own Sims at the beginning, design a house and follow the needs and desires of our characters.

But it is conceivable that EA and Maxis in the new offshoot on a open world which can be explored freely and without any interruptions. A large and connected game world would certainly be in the interests of the large community. Ultimately, however, Maxis would first have to clarify whether this is technically feasible at all. After all, Sims 5 is still at home on the PC, which probably has a manageable performance for the majority of players. Thanks to current technology, there should hardly be any limitations on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Nevertheless, one of the greatest challenges in the development of “The Sims 5” would be to get the title to run well and, above all, stably on weaker hardware.

Apart from that, we assume that EA and Maxis will create an even more colorful game and there will be more individual setting options. After all, everyone should be able to create their own little world, according to their own ideas.

Online mode multiplayer

A big change, which is only speculation so far, would be an online mode that would allow playing “The Sims 5” cross-platform. This would allow you, as a PC player, to play with your friends who own the Xbox or PlayStation title, for example. It would also be cool if you could invite your friends to your self-created open world to pursue various challenges together.

Expansion DLCs

The general idea of large expansion packs that bring new content such as jobs or fresh stories, as well as smaller accessory packs with new clothes or furnishings, should also work for “The Sims 5” again. But if there is actually an open world and an online mode, the possibilities for DLCs should increase again.

So you can assume that after purchasing the base game, you can invest more money in countless expansions. Of course, it depends on your interests in which direction you want to expand the game. However, smaller updates are also to be expected, which are offered free of charge and bring small to medium-sized changes.
