Avatar: Three Animated Movies Announced – Series Creators Involved
The Avatar series The Legend of Aang and The Legend of Korra have thrilled viewers worldwide – and it’s finally going back to the animated universe: Nickelodeon and Paramount have confirmed work on three new animated films. The creators of the series are also at the starting line.
The popular animated series Avatar, about the tamers of the four elements air, fire, earth and water, still enjoys great popularity years after The Legend of Aang and The Legend of Korra. Those responsible behind the scenes are aware of this – accordingly, a live series is being worked on in cooperation with Netflix, the cast of which is already known. But long-time fans of animation art can also rejoice: Three new cartoons set in the Avatar universe are also coming!
Three new Avatar animated films
The great news comes straight from Paramount Nickelodeon, who revealed the whole thing in a press release. Accordingly, the first of the films will be directed by Lauren Montgomery. Not a newcomer, she was a storyboard artist for the original Aang and Friends Avatar series. Apart from that, she has since worked as a director for animated series such as Voltron: Legendary Defender, Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated and Young Justice.

Also on board as producers are Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino, who created Avatar together in the first place. They were also initially involved in the development of the live-action Netflix series, but dropped out of the project due to creative differences. Accordingly, it sounds as if the animated films should be closer to the vision of the Avatar creators.
When these films are coming or what they are about is not known at this early point. Are you looking forward to new films in the Avatar universe? What stories would you suggest? An adventure after Korra’s series? A prequel to a certain avatar of the past? A conversion of the comics? Share your theories in the comments!
