MMORPG Lost Ark kicks out over half a million "players" - shows extent of bot problem

Most players should have noticed by now that bots and trading real money in Lost Ark is a massive problem. But now Amazon is bringing out the ban hammer again, and it’s really effective. We at MeinMMO summarize.

what is the situation In Lost Ark, bots became more and more of a problem. They farm massive mountains of gold, which they then sell to other players for real money. This process is called RMT (Real Money Trading) and is forbidden in the MMORPG. For a long time Amazon seemed powerless against it, a botter on reddit even showed how he runs over 100 accounts at the same time.

Due to the rising prices in the game, because more and more gold was in circulation and due to the lack of consequences, more and more players resorted to the RMT and bought gold from the bots. And where there is demand, there must be more supply, which then led to more and more bots. Some areas of Lost Ark were barely playable normally.

From the outside, however, the MMORPG did not reveal the problematic situation. As of June 13, the game still had 865,000 concurrent active players on Steam, making it one of the platform’s biggest genre players. One could only speculate how many of them were bots.

However, it is known that situations like the one in this video were the order of the day:

How did Amazon react? Not at all for a long time, which is why the bot plague in the game grew more and more into the biggest problem of the game. On June 15, however, the community manager Roxx announced massive consequences in the forum. She promised players that Amazon will address the issue over the next week and ban numerous accounts.

Not only bots are affected, but also players who participated in the RMT. In some cases, these only receive a temporary ban, but then they have to work off their debts.

The week of the ban wave is now coming to an end and has had great success. The MMORPG lost over half a million concurrent players on Steam and as wrong as that sounds, this is the best thing that could have happened to Lost Ark.

You can see why Lost Ark is so successful in the first place in our video:

The 5 reasons for the incredible success of Lost Ark

“Strange, suddenly they want to get rid of all their accounts”

What is the effect of the ban wave? Currently, Lost Ark player numbers show that the problem with bots and RMT was even more far-reaching than even pessimistic estimates. In a 7-day comparison, Lost Ark has fallen from 865,709 concurrent players at peak to 268,854. So at least 600,000 accounts were blocked, at least temporarily. Amazon does not yet have an overview of how many bots and accounts are generally affected.

The first, smaller effects are also having an impact on the economy. With a look at the websites of the gold sellers, it quickly becomes clear that the price of gold in Lost Ark has risen massively. Even in the RMT forums, fear is reigning for the valuable accounts. This in turn pleases the “real” players on reddit and gives them hope.

The community breathes a sigh of relief: For a long time, many fans were of the opinion that Amazon was simply powerless against the bots and the RMT. The massive wave of bans in the last week loosened the mood in reddit, in the forum and on Twitter. Many are still skeptical that this success can be maintained and the bots will not simply return with new accounts, but Lost Ark is currently looking very good.

Numerous threads on reddit are currently dealing with the topic and are really celebrating that RMT users are probably trying to sell their accounts in panic before they are banned. We would also like you to read a few quotes:

  • Nightwolf writes (via reddit): “Reading all the screenshots from the RMT forums gives me a comforting sense of glee.”
  • JnazGr write (via reddit): “All of a sudden all RMT people want to get rid of their account, with alleged family reasons, funny.”
  • Breloren writes (via reddit): “Oh sweet, sweet justice. More fear for the RMTers.”
  • KevinGFX writes (via Twitter): “Not a single bot in Rethramis on the UNA server. Good job Lost Ark, it works. Hopefully it will stay that way even if the fight goes on.”

What do you think of the current wave of bans in Lost Ark? Have you also noticed that the servers are getting emptier or that the economy on your server is slowly improving again? Feel free to write it to us in the comments here on MeinMMO, we look forward to discussing it with you.
