Nothing phone (1): YouTuber reveals the functions of the LEDs

About a week ago, the Nothing phone (1) was shown for the first time at an art fair. There, visitors could already admire the transparent back and the LED strips of the smartphone. A well-known tech YouTuber has now got his hands on the Nothing phone (1) and is showing what the LEDs can do.

As already seen at the Art Basel art fair, the Nothing phone (1) has a transparent back. This allows a look at the underlying white protective plates of the hardware and the LEDs. We originally assumed that the Nothing phone (1) would only have two LED strips, one around the camera module and one to the right of it.

Like the current one Hands-on video by YouTuber MKBHD shows, there are other LED strips that together form the Nothing glyph.

Glyph flashes to the rhythm of ringtones

The YouTuber MKBHD is only allowed to show the back of the Nothing phone (1) in his video, but there is already a lot to discover with the so-called Nothing glyph. The glyph signals users namely notifications and incoming calls.

A special feature for calls: the glyph flashes to the rhythm of the ringtone. As with other smartphones, different ringtones can be assigned to different contacts. If the user now sets the smartphone to silent, he can still see who is calling from the flashing pattern of the LEDs, explains MKBHD.

The oval LED strip continues to pulsate when the Nothing phone (1) is being charged via wireless charging or is charging a device such as the Nothing ear (1) via reverse charging. Incidentally, the vertical LED strip under the oval also functions as a charge level indicator, which slowly fills up when the smartphone is being charged.
